Swedish massage is what people usually think of as massage. In a typical Swedish massage I use a combination of strokes including long and short gliding strokes, kneading, percussion, and passive and active joint movements. Levels of pressure may vary according to the preferences and needs of the client. I use pure, organic jojoba to lubricate the skin and to minimize friction.

The purpose of Swedish massage can be relaxation and stress relief, as well as the treatment of muscle strains and other various conditions. Swedish massage enhances blood and lymph circulation, and clears the muscles of toxins. Swedish massage works to increase tissue elasticity and joint flexibility.

Examples of conditions that are relieved by Swedish massage are:

  • Syndromes of chronic pain, as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches, migraines
  • Stiff joints
  • Delayed onset muscle soreness after athletic events and workouts
Swedish massage also helps to counteract the effects of aging, decrease depression and anxiety, promote skin health and immune system function, and improve digestive disorders. It is beneficial for people diagnosed with ADD and ADHD.

Before your massage I will ask you about your health and what your massage needs and preferences are as far as depth of pressure, and if there are specific areas of tension or pain that need attention. Draping is used, with only the particular area that is being massaged exposed at any one time. Privacy is respected at all times. During the massage I highly recommend staying quiet and not engaging in conversation, in order to attain the deepest level of relaxation. I may at times check in with you for feedback to insure your comfort.

The benefit of Swedish-style massage to relieve stress and tension cannot be overemphasized in a culture such as ours. The physiological effects of the high levels of stress at which most of us operate on a daily basis are real and health impairing. Swedish massage stimulates the release of hormones and neurotransmitters that counteract stress on a chemical level.

Swedish massage received on a consistent time table can have cumulative beneficial effects. Conditions that are severe and chronic may become mild or non-existent with weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly massages.
