Various forms of the healing art of Lomi Lomi are traditionally held by each ohana (family). The form I practice is called Hawai´ian Temple Bodywork, Ke Ala Hoku (Pathway to the Stars). According to the oral history passed down through story and chant, this ancient and distinctive form of Lomi Lomi was practiced by the kahuna in the temples of Hawaii as a sacred rite of passage. In June of 2006 I was privileged to spend eight days on Maui at a retreat/seminar to experience and learn this work.

The term Lomi Lomi simply means to knead or massage. In Hawai´ian Temple bodywork there is the connotation of weaving, there is the rhythm of the ocean tides, there is the changing direction of birds in flight, there are patterns of figure-eight infinity. The intention is about letting go and leaving behind that which no longer serves, and awakening to new knowledge of the Self as connected to the Whole, in a context of Divine and unconditional love.

This work offers the opportunity for profound personal transformation.

Receiving Lomi Lomi:
How to prepare, what to expect

It follows that lomi lomi is not 'just another massage technique.' It is more like a ritual, a sacrament. It is a whole form... not to be blended casually with other massage modalities.

I will be very honored to practice lomi lomi with you at your advance request. I will prepare for your session with meditation, intention, and by setting up the massage table and music a little differently. You could prepare for your session by reserving time before and after; before, to become recollected and hold your own intention for the session, and after, to process, rest, and maybe take a shower. This is not the kind of massage you want to squeeze into a busy day.

Before the session begins, I will speak with you briefly about what to expect and you might share a little about your intention for the session (if you like). During the hour and a half on the massage table, I will incorporate movement, breath, prayer, chant, sacred touch, and the power of intention, love and presence. Instead of uncovering parts one at a time and massaging each individually, the entire body is worked on, over, under and around; hence the room is warmed and there is minimal draping. Oil is applied abundantly in a ritual anointing at the beginning of the session and the excess gently toweled off near the end. It is an intimate and sensual experience, but not sexual. In the intimacy, the opening up in a space of unconditional Divine love and acceptance, lies much of the healing.
We will talk a little afterwards, and there will be time for you to reintegrate before leaving.

Come and experience for yourself the power and the beauty of Lomi Lomi.
